Scotty McCreery is counting down the days until he officially becomes a father.
The “Damn Strait” singer recently sat down with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton to chat about his current single, expecting his first child with his wife Gabi, baby names and more.
“We’re so excited, but I know life is going to be a lot different in a few months,” McCreery shared.
The North Carolina native admitted that they had a girl name picked out, however, when they were told it was a boy, they had to start back at square one.
“I was pretty sold it was going to be a girl, and I think she did too. So we had a girl name picked out, but we didn’t have a boy name. So we’re still in the process,” McCreery shared, adding that often discuss baby names.
During the interview, McCreery also revealed his wife’s due date, which may be coming sooner than they initially thought.
“Early November, although she just had her latest ultrasound, they said, ‘He’s measuring ahead of schedule,” McCreery explained. ”It looks like October 31st.’ I was like, ‘Oh boy! Halloween!’”
Gabi, who is a pediatric nurse, is well-versed in taking care of newborns, which can be a good or a bad thing.
“I think she’s more of all the things that can go wrong,” McCreery said. ”She’s seen all that can go wrong, so that’s in her mind, but if I see her eyes get scared, I’ll probably freak out.”
McCreery and his wife first revealed the baby news exclusively with PEOPLE on Tuesday, June 21, initially unveiling that their new addition will be arriving this fall.
McCreery also revealed their baby’s gender with the outlet at the time. “We got a little man on the way,” the country hitmaker said with a smile.
“I was the only boy on both sides of my family, the last McCreery boy out there,” McCreery told People. “Gabi’s from two sisters in her family, so I just figured it would be a girl. But we got a surprise of a boy.”
McCreery also said that he and Gabi have “always talked about” having children together.
“We always knew we wanted kids, but we always knew we wanted the first few years to travel and have time on the road, to see things and experience life,” he shared. “We’ve gotten to live a lot of life and do some cool things, so it seems like now’s a good time to settle down a little and expand the family.”
Scotty and Gabi, who reside in North Carolina, have known each other since Kindergarten. The couple’s love story is straight out of a fairy tale as Gabi used to doodle hearts and “Mrs. Gabi McCreery” in her diary.
The couple wed in June of 2018 and added Moose to their family in early 2019.
“The best day of my life was June 16, 2018, the day me and my wife got married,” McCreery recently told Skip Clark on the Skip Happens podcast. “We dated for years since 2012, so I knew for a longtime she was the one. That was just an incredible day.”
Scotty McCreery’s next scheduled tour is July 22 in Jefferson, Indiana at Riverstage. See a full list of his upcoming tour dates HERE.
