Shay Mooney, one-half of the country music duo Dan + Shay, recently gave a weight loss update on social media and shared the key to his success as he goes into the new year.
The Instagram post included a shocking side-by-side photo that showed how much he has transformed over the past six months.
“Consistency,” he wrote in the caption. “I changed my entire world in 6 months. No gimmicks or fads. Just consistency. If that tired guy on the left can do it so can you. 💪🏻”
Several of Mooney’s fellow country stars including Carrie Underwood, Brian Kelley, Jessie James Decker, Cole Swindell and many more took to the comment section to praise him for his hard work.
“You should be proud!” Underwood said while Swindell added, “Hell yeah brother 💪 Gotta swing the sticks soon. Happy New Year.”
Plenty of fans also jumped on the opportunity to share kind words of encouragement and ask Mooney to share details on his new workout and nutrition regimen.
One user wrote, “that’s amazing! Maybe you can do a reel or video of what you eat in a day! That would be awesome! Congrats on all the hard work paying off. That is my word for the New Year! CONSISTENCY 🙌”
The country singer also shared the post to his story where he added, “Ain’t as good as I’m gonna get. But I’m better than I used to be.”
This update follows a transformation video Mooney shared to Instagram on December 2 which gave an inside look on what his life has looked like over the past few months.
In his caption, he revealed how much this experience has affected him, and stressed the importance of surrounding yourself with things and people that will continue to show their support throughout the more difficult phases in life.
“It’s weird not recognizing yourself. I got to a place mentally and physically that I will never go again,” he explained. “It matters what we eat. It matters who you spend your time with. It matters what you choose to spend your time on. I’m so thankful for the people in my life that helped me make a change. No one forced me into this. I wanted to change my life for me. I’ve never felt more alive. I’m not looking for mediocrity…let’s go find greatness.”
Earlier this year, fans started to notice a shift in the country singer’s appearance. Then in October, he officially announced that he had lost nearly 50 pounds in five months.
“Thank you guys so much for all your kind words about me looking healthy,” he wrote. “Really means a lot. Been a little over 5 months I believe and I’m down almost 50lbs. For those asking: Eating clean/not drinking alcohol and walking 7 miles a day. And some weights. That’s it! I completely changed my lifestyle and I’ve never felt better physically, mentally, and spiritually.”
During a previous interview on the TODAY Show, Mooney opened up about his initial motivation to make the lifestyle change.
“I had this moment where I was just not feeling healthy. It wasn’t necessarily for my appearance, but it was to feel healthy. And I’m down about 53 or 54 pounds,” he said honestly.
Shay Mooney and his wife Hannah are currently parents to their two children, Ames and Asher, but soon, they will welcome their third child. In August, they revealed the news that they were expecting another baby boy.
Their vulnerable caption read, “Mooney Baby #3! Thankful. Excited. Tired. 😂”
As for the band, Dan + Shay already have several performances and festival dates on the books for 2023. Their next appearance is currently set for June 23 in Cadott, WI.
