Ty Myers might still be a fairly new face in the pool of rising country music stars, but there has never been a time when he wasn’t working on pursuing his dreams, and it’s all started to pay off. As a result of his true dedication, he’s gaining fans and building a catalog of buzz-worthy tracks at a rapid pace.
The 17-year-old singer-songwriter from Austin, TX, gained valuable industry experience at a young age while also learning the importance of a strong work ethic from growing up on his family’s cattle ranch, which has been in their possession for over six generations. He recalls watching his grandma play the piano at church, falling asleep on bar tops as his father performed in local venues on the weekends, and seeing his uncle, Dean Sams, build a career as the founding member of the country band Lonestar.
Finding His Own Unique Sound
All these lessons and experiences have allowed Myers to develop his unique sound that is currently taking over social media with his debut single, “Tie That Binds” and the somber country tune, “Drinkin’ Alone.”
“My dad was a singer-songwriter in dance halls and bars, I grew up with all that old country stuff. And then a guy I mentioned earlier, Anderson East, my mom showed me that soul stuff, Bill Withers and all that stuff. Then I kind of found blues on my own and [John] Mayer is like my hero, so I’m trying to draw from all these influences and make a very unique sound to me and just kind of experiment with different stuff,” he told Country Now following his recent performance at 2024’s Elevation Beaver Creek.
Myers has no problem with the fact that he clearly can’t escape music because it’s something he truly loves. He’s eager to jump into the deep end and find out what his future will look like in this industry, but he’s also trying to take the advice of his uncle and make sure he stops and enjoys the ride along the way.
“We had dinner one night when this was all happening at a Mexican place in Nashville and he was like, ‘look, the one piece of advice I’m going to give you is take it all in and take the moment for itself.’ Because where he said he messed up was he was always, he was always you know, ‘oh, we got a Grammy. What’s next? What’s next, what’s next, what’s next?’ And then never really took in the moment and that really hit me hard. I’ve always kept that in my heart and tried to keep that in the front of my brain.”
Building Out A New Project
Last year, Myers opted to give up playing baseball and football and instead continue his studies through homeschooling in order to have the flexibility to focus on his career. This allows him to play more shows and spend more time in the studio, developing a clear vision he has for his next chapter.
“We’re working on a project right now that we’re really excited about,” he teased.
Fans have already gotten a sneak peek of what’s to come for him musically, with the release of his newest single, “Worry Is A Sickness.” This song was penned solely by Myers while he was battling a sickness of his own that caused him to temporarily lose his voice. Although he couldn’t sing the tune he had just penned, he knew he had “something good.” Its captivating melody and hazy lovesick lyrics gained traction on social media instantly and has now become a true staple in his live shows.
“It’s awesome because I think it was really a turning point. The sound for me, I was trying to figure out something to make it a little different than everybody else that’s also coming up with me to kind of differentiate myself and pull from a lot of different influences that I have. And I’m really excited that people love it. I think it’s a good introduction to more music that’s coming out.”
The Let ‘Em Talk Tour Is Underway
The young artist is currently on his very first headlining trek that features 19 dates and is over 50% sold out already. Named after the single that has already racked up over 4 million streams and views to date, the Let ‘Em Talk Tour kicked off September 5 and runs through November 8 with upcoming stops in college towns like Athens, GA, Fort Worth, TX, Lexington, KY and more.
While reflecting on his current run, Ty Myers said, “I love all these college towns and all these places, rowdy fans. It’s kind of what I live for and I love being on the road. I’m the happiest when I’m on the road.”
