Lainey Wilson has become well known in the country music world for her Louisiana accent, her award-winning vocals, and of course, her stylish looks that are never complete without a pair of bell bottoms.
These stylish pants have been a part of her life for just about as long as she can remember. Even as a child, she was drawn to the unique flare that remains a staple in her wardrobe to this day.
“I remember my very first pair of bell bottoms. They were blue leopard print,” she told Variety. “My mama bought ’em. And it got to the point where I was wearing ’em so much, she was like, ‘You gotta take ’em off. We gotta put ’em in the washer.’”
The Queen Of Bell Bottom Country
Trying to make it as an artist in Nashville can be great challenge, considering the number of talented singer/songwriters who are all working towards the same goal. Wilson already had the skills, but she needed something to make her stand out from the rest. So, she returned to her roots and reprised her beloved bell bottoms.
“I was really trying to figure out what could I do to stand apart from the rest of the females in Nashville, because it’s very important to do that. And what is something that is really true to me?” she asked herself. “For me it was the whole bell bottom throwback look. And I’m glad we did.”
Wilson added, “I mean, we’ve been doing it now for probably about six years solid. Probably 2016 is when I decided, all right, if I’m gonna do this, I need to wear bell bottoms and need to wear my vintage shirts and stuff like that, daily.”
These bell bottoms have since become such an important part of the “Hillbilly Hippie” singer’s career that she titled her latest album Bell Bottom Country. Many fans have made an effort to copy her retro fashion pieces when attending her shows or even in their everyday lives.
To learn more about how to replicate her signature look, Country Now caught up with a few experts, Wilson’s stylists, Juli & Jeri, who shared some tips on how they go about styling the country superstar.

Do you have any tips for anyone who wants to try and replicate Lainey’s signature look?
Lainey loves vintage 70’s tops, so we like to pair these with her bells and tie them at the waist to get a good hourglass silhouette. To give the look more of a vibe add a layering piece like a fringe vest. Also, look for High waisted Bells, not hip huggers/ or low-rise. Make sure you pile on the layers of statement necklaces, rings on every finger and “big ole earrings”. Finish it off with a hat from Standard Hat Works and some sky-high platform heels.
What are some ways you can dress up or dress down bell bottoms?
To dress Bells down just pair with a graphic T, casual sandals and casual everyday jewelry like hoops and your favorite pendant necklace. To elevate the look, pair with a silk blouse and tailored blazer. Go big with the jewelry, find a nice statement necklace and a chandelier or stiletto earring with a formal heel.
What are the best shoes to pair with Bell Bottoms?
This depends on your height and the occasion. For girls 5’7″ and under we recommend a platform heel – about 5″ high. This will elongate the leg for days. For the 6′ and up crowd they may want a flat sandal or flop. The main rule is that the bell should graze the ground – making the wearer seem to spring long and goddess-like from the earth.
