Alexandra Kay released the music video for her song, “That’s What Love Is,” on Wednesday (May 11). The song is dedicated to Kay’s husband and long-time love, Indiana Touchette and features clips from their wedding day as well as personal videos of the couple spending time together.
The song, which details Kay’s relationship with Touchette, was released on Apr. 29. It is also set to appear on her Backroad Therapy album.
Kay reflected on the sweet song she wrote for her now-husband on Instagram back on its release day.
“Indy hadn’t even proposed to me yet, but I knew he was the one I was going to spend the rest of my life with,” Kay wrote. “I have never had words fall so freely from my lips as the words to this chorus did in the middle of the night.. in a studio apartment we couldn’t afford.”
“Years later as our wedding was approaching I brought this song to my friends @marykutter and @andrewecapra they very easily immersed themselves into our love story to help birth this song I will cherish forever,” she continued. “A movie of the past almost 10 years with my husband plays in my mind every time that chorus hits. Thank you for the hundreds of thousands of you who have supported this song already. I am blown away and my heart is so full.”
Kay and Touchette wed in an intimate ceremony at dusk in Mt. Vernon, Illinois in September 2021. The couple wrote their own vows and Touchette’s brother-in-law, Tim Hastey officiated.
Kay met Touchette, who is a union laborer, over 10 years ago through friends.
“Here’s to the nights that we spent crying / The weight of the world hanging on our shoulders / Here’s to the days of bills unpaid / And being afraid of getting older / Jobs they came and went / So did most of our friends / Felt like the rain would never quit / But you took my hand, and we slow danced through all of it / And that’s what love is,” Kay sings on the chorus of the song.
Kay has found success with her music through the social media platform, TikTok. She is best known for her “Coffee Covers” series in which she covers another artist’s song while making her coffee.
Kay’s use of TikTok recently caught country singer Tim McGraw’s attention, prompting him to personally invite her to open for him on his 2022 tour. Joining Kay in opening for McGraw is Brandon Davis, another singer McGraw discovered on TikTok, and Russell Dickerson.
