WATCH: ‘American Idol’ Alums Noah Thompson and Colin Stough Wow Crowd With Surprise Duet
The Idol alums delivered a rockin’ cover of the Band Of Heathens’ hit, “Hurricane.”

Noah Thompson and Colin Stough shared the stage for a duet during the 50th Anniversary of CMA Fest in Nashville on June 10.
In the midst of Thompson’s performance on the Chevy Vibes Stage, he surprised the crowd by bringing out his friend, Stough, who was a finalist on Season 21 of American Idol, to sing a duet.
Together, the pair delivered a rockin’ cover of the Band Of Heathens’ hit, “Hurricane.”
After their epic performance, Colin Stough immediately posted a clip of their duet to social media while also showcasing gratitude to Thompson for allowing him to join him on stage.
“Had a blast this morning on stage with my good buddy @noahthompsonmusic thank you to all❤️,” Stough wrote on Instagram following his surprise performance alongside the hashtags: #cmafest #chevy #mississippi #living #music.
“Have had a freaking blast at CMA fest,” Stough later added. ”Crazy to think how much my life has changed in the past year from high school to this. Thank you fans, and thank you good lord for all the blessings.❤️”
Thompson, who won Season 20 of American Idol, also took to social media to share photos from their performance together.
“CMA FEST Thank y’all for showing up early to hang with us!! We had a blast with y’all, also to my boy @colinstough for hopping up and singing one!!” Thompson said.
Thompson and Stough also performed during a free event in Nashville, dubbed 19 Takeover, on June 7 at The Valentine, a multi-level bar and music venue, located on Lower Broadway in the heart of Music City. The concert was organized by 19 Recordings, the label that partners with Idol to sign select contestants and the show’s winners.
Iam Tongi (Season 21), HunterGirl (Season 20), Megan Danielle (Season 21), Haven Madison (Season 21), Fritz Hager (Season 20), Grace Leer (Season 18) also performed at the star-studded 19 Takeover event.
Noah Thompson recently dropped his debut EP, Middle of God Knows Where, which features the lead single, “One Day Tonight,” and his countrified cover of Rihanna’s “Stay.”
Released on June 9, Thompson’s six-track project is a product of what he called the “craziest year” of his life and showcases his growth as an artist and songwriter since winning American Idol in 2022.
“Hard to believe I’m putting out my very first project for you guys!!” Thompson previously shared. ”My life has changed so much in such a short matter of time and it’s all because of you, can’t thank you all enough for supporting me. Also, huge thank you to @bbrmusicgroup @19.recordings and @bmgnashville for all the hard work they’ve put into this for me.”
Meanwhile, Colin Stough released his debut single, “I Still Talk To Jesus,” before being eliminated from Idol earlier this year.
Co-written by Francisco Martin and Hank Compton, “I Still Talk To Jesus” finds the 18-year-old American Idol finalist leaning on his faith in the midst of a breakup. As he faces the intense loneliness in the aftermath of a love gone wrong, Stough turns to his relationship with Jesus to help him navigate this difficult time in his life.
“I still believe in the things that I make in my head / I still believe every word that you said / I know I’m better off without you / But I hate knowin’ it’s the same for you / I tell myself that I still need it / I just want something to believe in / I still talk to Jesus,” Colin Stough sings on the tune’s chorus.
The tune, which was released on Friday (May 19), was produced by DeStefano at The Sound Factory.
“Being able to record my own song. Man, it makes me feel really grateful. It’s definitely a phase in life I never thought I’d be able to see or be able to get to and now we’re here,” Stough shared.
ABC recently revealed that American Idol will return for another season, however, the network has yet to confirm if Bryan, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Ryan Seacrest will come back for another season.
