The long-awaited new Sunday Night Football opening, featuring country superstar Carrie Underwood and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Joan Jett, is finally here!
Making its debut on Sunday (Sept. 8), the new SNF opener features a new rendition of the original SNF theme song, “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” which was originally based on Jett’s 1988 Top 10 hit, “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
Underwood opens the rockin’ new clip on a city rooftop. As she makes her way to the stage singing the iconic theme song, footage of various NFL players, including Atlanta Falcons WR Julio Jones, Chicago Bears DB Kyle Fuller, Chicago Bears LB Khalil Mack, Chicago Bears QB Mitch Trubisky, Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff, Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz, Philadelphia TE Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles DT Fletcher Cox and Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson, flash across the screen.
Underwood then joins Jett on stage at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to perform the rest of “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” in front of thousands of adoring fans.
“I have always been a huge fan of Joan’s, and I’m thrilled that she’s joining us for the Sunday Night Football open,” Underwood previously shared. “What better way to pay homage to the original SNF opening song than by getting to play with her on primetime’s biggest stage?”
Underwood and Jett previously joined forces at CMA Fest in June when the rocker joined the seven-time Grammy winner to sing a number of Jett’s biggest hits on stage at Nissan Stadium.
The new Sunday Night Football opening will air throughout the NFL season on NBC.
