Country hitmaker Kane Brown has idolized Country Music Hall of Famer Randy Travis all of his life and that has come full circle as he went from being his hero to becoming his friend.

Just days after the country superstar paid tribute to Travis at the CMT Artists Of The Year ceremony, Brown welcomed Travis to the stage during his Blessed And Free tour date at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, October 17.

“He got Artist of a Lifetime [a few days ago] and I got to do this song, so if any of y’all missed that, I’m going to do it for you guys,” Brown told the crowd, wearing a Dallas Mavericks jersey, before he gave a surprise performance of Travis’ iconic hit, “Three Wooden Crosses.”

The country hitmaker performed with the song with the legendary singer sitting beside him in a wheelchair with a big smile on his face. The performance concluded with the crowd serenading Brown and Travis.

On Tuesday (Oct. 19), Travis shared a clip of his special appearance at Brown’s show, writing, “Had a blast at my friend @kanebrown_music‘s concert at American Airlines Center in Dallas,” Travis captioned a video clip on Instagram. ”Thank you for the 🤍”

On October 13, Brown paid tribute to Travis as the country icon looked on from the front row of Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center during CMT’s Artists Of The Year ceremony. The show also honored Randy Travis with the highly-coveted Artist of a Lifetime title.

“I’ve done it before by surprise, It was the first time I met him, he came up behind me at a radio station while I was singing it,” Brown said ahead of his tribute performance. “And then I couldn’t finish the song afterwards, so I guess this is a chance to redeem myself.”

When speaking to CMT of Travis’ Artist Of a Lifetime honor, Brown shared, “I would just say it’s his storytelling, and it’s how many people can resonate with him and I love what he’s doing right now with all the newer artists. I see him everywhere, I mean, he’s even on TikTok with new artists and just encouraging them, and you just want to see those types of people succeed, and he’s just way ahead of that. I think he’s just an amazing person all around.”

“Three Wooden Crosses” is a song written by Kim Williams and Doug Johnson, and recorded by Randy Travis. It was released in November 2002 from his album, Rise and Shine. The song became Travis’ 16th No. 1 single.

Brown is currently in the midst of his massive 35-date headlining Blessed And Free Tour, which kicked off on October 1 in Sacramento and will visit all 29 NBA basketball arenas throughout 2021 and 2022, marking the first country artist in history to headline every NBA basketball arena on a single tour.
