Just hours before releasing her new single, “Waking Up Dreaming,” Shania Twain surprised fans with the news that she would also be dropping a music video.
“You didn’t think I would give you Waking Up Dreaming without a music video right?? 😂 I can’t wait to see you guys replicate these looks… you know I had to give you some more outfit inspo,” she wrote on Twitter.
In the opening footage, the Canadian superstar is dressed head to toe in full glam. She channels her inner rockstar as she dons purple sequin pants and a white blouse with lavish frills lining the buttons, the cuffs of her sleeves, and popped collar. Her look is topped off with a light pink wig and chunky layered necklaces.
As the video directed by Isaac Rentz progresses, the five-time Grammy award winner is seen wearing a variety of colorful wigs and bold outfits, but the one accessory that remains the same is her lengthy eyelashes.
She’s filmed dancing around what appears to be a dressing room with a bright-lit mirror and a leather couch fit for a songwriting session before hitting the stage to jam out with her band.
When the international superstar shared the news that she would be dropping her first new single since 2017, she could hardly contain her excitement.
Her caption read, “Every time I get to announce something like this I get such a rush of adrenaline and nerves – it never gets old… I am super excited to share with you that my new song ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ is coming out this Friday!!”
The song serves also her first release with her new label partner Republic Nashville, a division of Republic Records.
“I couldn’t think of a better partner than Republic Nashville. I’m honored and excited to be the label’s first artist and lead the charge of this new and exciting chapter,” she said in a recent press release. “In this respect, it feels like a new beginning all around, and I’m embracing it wholeheartedly.”
In her social media post announcing the new song, Twain went on to explain that she’s been staying busy the last couple of years between recording her new music, working on her documentary, Not Just A Girl, and finishing up her Las Vegas Residency.
“It’s been such a creatively fulfilling time for me, I can’t wait for this next chapter and ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ is just the start.”
“Waking Up Dreaming” follows the release of her latest compilation project, Not Just A Girl (The Highlights), which also serves as the soundtrack to her Netflix documentary of the same title. The documentary premiered on the streaming service in July and features interviews with Lionel Richie, Diplo, Avril Lavigne, Orville Peck, and Kelsea Ballerini and showcases plenty of Twain’s behind-the-scenes moments.
According to ELLE, she is also planning to release her sixth studio album in 2023, which follows her critically acclaimed, Now, that hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and on the Top Country Albums Chart upon arrival.
Further details regarding her upcoming album and future performances have yet to be announced.
