Alexandra Kay is in her “lover girl era” and her latest song, “Cupids A Cowgirl” is true reflection of this exciting new chapter. Her previous project, All I’ve Ever Known, was shaped by the devastating journey of her divorce and reflected a very different phase of both her personal life and career. With this new release, Kay offers fans a glimpse into her current joy-filled chapter as she looks forward to her next album.

The female singer/songwriter’s bubbly and bright personality comes out strong in “Cupids A Cowgirl,” which she penned alongside Cheyenne Rose Arnspiger and Kevin Gruft. Confidence radiates through Kay’s vocals as she paints the fictional character of Cupid in a very different light. Typically, the ancient Roman God of love is portrayed as a male, but in Kay’s world, she sees Cupid as a strong woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go after it.

This track packs a punch with its fierce lyrics and an irresistibly catchy up-tempo beat. It’s the ultimate karaoke song for any woman looking to blow off some steam with a classic empowering anthem, reminiscent of the early days of Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood.

Kay even name-drops some musical icons in the chorus as she sings, “It’s her pony show/ Love’s a rodeo/ You’re lucky just to be buckin’ in it/ Stealin’ hearts like Jesse James/ Shoots like old John Wayne/ She was raised by Willie, Hank and Merle/ Cupid’s a cowgirl.”

Over the past year, the singer bared her heart in a deeply vulnerable way, and now she’s embracing the happiness she’s found with upbeat songs like this one.

“I came from ‘All I’ve Ever Known,’ my last album, being just very serious and a very serious topic about my divorce and me really digging into my emotions and growing through that. And I was like, ‘where I’m at right now is I’m so confident, I’m so happy, and I’m just in a very pink and girly and fun place in my life.’ And so I think that was a great representation of that,” she shared of the song.

“Cupids A Cowgirl” also gives fans a sneak peek into the Illinois native’s next project that’s expected to maintain her signature authenticity throughout every track. Writing about her real-life experiences and emotions is something Kay has been doing since she was 12 years old. She’s never been one to hold back, even if it means digging into the most challenging times of her personal life. So on this collection of songs, she uses that same mentality and eases listeners into her new phase of pure joy.

“This was a very interesting process because it was the first time that I’ve written a record out of happiness and joy and independence and self-discovery,” she pointed out. “It’s been really, really cool to discover who I am as a songwriter when I’m not writing through heartache. And so I’m very excited for everybody to hear kind of the mix.”

She continued, “There are some songs that bridge that gap between ‘All I’ve Ever Known’ and this new record. There are some songs that kind of look back and say, ‘oh, okay, now that I am in a new relationship and I’m happy and I’m secure.’ It does make me look back sometimes and say, I wonder what went wrong. I wonder why we couldn’t get here…So we’re not just going from ‘All I’ve Ever Known’ being the heartbreak record straight into a happiness record. There are some songs that kind of meet you in the middle and ease you into this new era. So I’m excited for everybody to hear it.”

Now signed to BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, Kay is excited to share the side of her journey from independent to signed artist with her followers. For a long time, she and her small team worked tirelessly each day to make her dreams come true, but with this new partnership, she is feeling extra “grateful” for the people and opportunities in her corner. Kay will soon share a behind-the-scenes look at this entire transition through vlogs which will be posted to YouTube in the near future.

“I’m really, really excited for everybody to see that,” she shared about the upcoming video diary series. “It’s been a tad bit of a learning curve, but honestly, I signed with the best team in Nashville, in my opinion. I have the best radio team in the game right now, and I have been talking to Jon Loba at BMG for four years. And we waited until the time was absolutely right, until the music was right, until the fan base was fully engaged, and we pulled the trigger at the perfect time. So honestly, I couldn’t be happier with the team that I’m with, and I’m excited to show everybody the good, the bad, and the ugly of going from independent to signed and just be an open book I’ve always been.”

“Cupid’s A Cowgirl” also serves as the name of Alexandra Kay’s current headlining tour and sits at the very top of her setlist in each of her live shows this run. With her elevated production, Kay is able to bring this song to life in a huge way with a nine-foot heart and an epic pink light show to match the vibe.

Following this trek, she will deliver her first-ever international dates on the All I’ve Ever Known U.K. & Europe Tour. This run features already sold out stops in Amsterdam, Glasgow, Birmingham, Belfast and Manchester. Then, she will continue her already hectic touring schedule with an opening slot on Brad Paisley’s Truck Still Works World Tour this summer.

“We do a month in Europe, which one of the most mind-blowing things to me is that we sell just as much, if not more, tickets in the UK than we do in the US…It’s really, really cool,” she marveled. And I have none of this without the US fans pushing me through social media, and I’m just so grateful that I got on TikTok.”
