Gretchen Wilson celebrated 20 years of her iconic single, “Redneck Woman” with Ashley McBryde in a show-stopping duet at CMA Fest 2024. This incredible special moment took place on Thursday, June 6 during McBryde’s hit-filled set at Nissan Stadium.
These country artists brought concert-goers to their feet as they danced around the stage and took turns delivering the empowering anthem that celebrates the women of small town America who embrace their redneck lifestyle and prefer to spend their days in a honky tonk drinking cold beer instead of “sweet champagne.”
McBryde dazzled in her gold sequin jumpsuit while Wilson kept it casual in her bootcut jeans and plain black t-shirt. They both embraced the upbeat tune, while adding their unique styles to the performance that had multiple generations of fans singing along to every word.

“Redneck Woman” was penned by Wilson with John Rich and was released as a featured track on the female country star’s 2004 debut album, Here For The Party. The rowdy party anthem soared to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and to this day remains Wilson’s signature song. It received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Song and took home a win for Best Female Country Vocal Performance at the 47th Awards ceremony.
Prior to taking the stage, Wilson opened up about the song’s milestone anniversary and the inspiration behind the story in an interview On The Red Carpet with ABC.
“During the time that John Rich and I sat down to write that song, there were a lot of women in country music that I felt didn’t really represent all of us. I was like, ‘Where’s the girl that wakes up looking like me? Where’s the girl that is happy to live in her mobile home? That feels a big sense of pride living in her small town and working at her little Dollar General store or whatever?’ It felt like there just wasn’t a lot of representation for good ol’ girls so I think that’s what we wanted to do was sit down and write a song that represented the ones that were being left out.”
Wilson went on to say that she had no idea that the track would go on to resonate with so many women who felt the same way she did.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to have been the voice for those women,” she added.
In addition to performing the country classic with Wilson, Ashley McBryde also lit up the stage with several of her fan-favorite hits such as “Blackout Betty,” “Girl Goin’ Nowhere,” “Women Ain’t Whiskey” and more.

Hosted by Jelly Roll and Ashley McBryde, CMA Fest on ABC also included performances by Kelsea Ballerini, Big & Rich, Clint Black, Brothers Osborne, Luke Bryan, Terri Clark, Jordan Davis, Jackson Dean, Billy F Gibbons, HARDY, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Little Big Town, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Parker McCollum, Megan Moroney, Jon Pardi, Carly Pearce, Post Malone, Shaboozey, Blake Shelton, Brittney Spencer, The War And Treaty, Thomas Rhett, Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson and Bailey Zimmerman.
The three-hour concert special, dubbed “the Music Event of the Summer,” was filmed during CMA Fest in Nashville, which took place Thursday, June 6 through Sunday, June 9, 2024.
