When Hank Williams Jr. isn’t working as a renowned award-winning artist, he’s taking his grandfather duties very seriously.
On Tuesday, Oct. 4, the icon took to social media to share a couple of photos of him enjoying spending time with three of his grandchildren. According to his caption, he recently was invited to attend their school as a guest in celebration of Grandparent’s Day.
His grandkids Arlo Gale, Lillie Mae Louise and Stella June, were born to Hank Jr.’s daughter Holly Audrey Williams and her husband, Chris Coleman. The couple has been married since 2009 and currently reside in their Nashville home. Holly Audrey Mae, is the daughter of Hank Jr. and his second wife of 10 years, Becky White.
The Alabama native has a total of five kids, Williams III, Holly Williams, Hilary Williams, Samuel Williams, and Katherine Diane Williams, who was killed in a car crash in Tennessee on June 13, 2020, at the age of 27. Before she passed, Katie gave birth to two children, Beau Weston and Audrey Jane.
Holly recently announced that she is pregnant with her fourth child. She shared the news via social media on August 7 with a glowing photo of her in a flowy white dress showing off her baby bump.
Her caption read, “I keep forgetting to tell y’all something 😳🥰👼🏼 Number four will be making a mystery fall debut!!! Thanks to the insanely talented @mandyjohnsonphotographyfor all that she captures, she’s been a friend through many seasons. I am most curious, awe-inspired, somewhat afraid, and deeply-deeply grateful-for this one, after so many roaring waves threatened to steal the shoreline. Here’s to another wild round @colemantime, and to all the sleep we can possibly get before it is stolen once again, in the most brutal and beautiful manner. Tick-tock…”
This exciting news comes near the end of what has been a rough year for the family. On Tuesday, March 22, Mary Jane Thomas, Hank Jr.’s third wife, unexpectedly passed at the age of 61. Mary Jane, who was once a suntan lotion model for Hawaiian Tropic, and Hank Jr. wed in 1990 and celebrated 31 years of marriage last summer.
TMZ reported that the Jupiter Beach Resort & Spa called the local police department around 5PM EST on Tuesday afternoon, where Mary Jane was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Together, they raised two kids together, their late daughter Katie, and their son Sam, who is a recent signee of Mercury Nashville and released his debut album, Glasshouse Children, in August of 2021. Katie is the only one of Hank Jr.’s kids who did not pursue a career in the country music industry that runs deep in their roots.
Over the summer, Hank Jr. released a new album titled, Rich White Honky Blues. Following its June 17 release, the project landed at No. 1 on the Current Country, Americana/Folk and Blues Albums charts, and rose to No. 2 on the Current Rock and Record Label Independent Current Albums.
“This is beyond my wildest dreams,” Williams shared after learning the album debuted at No. 1 across multiple genres. “What a great feeling.”
The country music icon does not currently have any upcoming shows on the books.
