Jana Kramer is urging parents to be more aware of their surroundings when out in public with their children after a terrifying incident involving her 4-year-old daughter, Jolie.

The singer/actress detailed the frightening experience on Instagram on Monday evening (Jan. 4), just hours after their family outing.

“Had the absolute scariest thing happen today at the park,” she began. “We took the kids cause it was a nice day and we needed to get out and took them to a park we know and love. We were going down the slides, swinging and having a great time. Jolie met a sweet little girl and they started running around.”

Kramer went on to explain that she watches her kids “like hawks” but that she lost sight of Jolie when she was running around the playhouse. After catching a quick glimpse of Jolie running around with her new friend, Kramer and her husband, Mike Caussin, took their 2-year-old son down the slide.

“But then the next minute a lady walked up to me and said ‘your daughter just got into a white suv.’ My heart went straight to my gut and I said WHAT?!!! I immediately ran as fast as I could to the parking lot where I then saw Jolie and the little girl coming around the back of the car to which the little girls mom was in car,” Kramer recalled. “I clung to Jolie so quick and caught my breath and tried to turn off all the ‘what if’s’ going through my brain.”

After the “eye-opening experience,” Kramer urged parents to be present and always have an eye on their children.

“Literally in a blink of a second…that’s how fast a kid could be taken,” she wrote. “Thank God that’s not what happened here and the little girl Jolie was with just wanted to see her mom but it’s a reminder for all of us to stay present, be aware because they might not end up like today and be watchful like the amazing mom that came up to me.”

The alarming experience led Kramer to speak with her daughter about strangers, an important topic that they had not discussed yet.

“I think I expected her to know she can’t leave without mommy or daddy and plus I was always watching,” the “I Got the Boy” singer explained. “I’m grateful we had the talk today.”

Jana Kramer and Mike Caussin are parents to Jolie, 4, and Jace, 2.
