Jordan Davis Puts His Acting Skills To The Test In ‘Tucson Too Late’ Music Video

Jordan Davis declared “Tucson Too Late” as the next single off his Bluebird Days album, and released a music video to accompany the track. 

The tune was penned by Davis and his brother Jacob Davis alongside frequent collaborators, Josh and Matt Jenkins. These skilled songwriters are also responsible for writing Davis’ CMA Award-winning track, “Buy Dirt.”

Story Behind The Song

While discussing the writing process for his latest contribution to radio, the country star recalls feeling inspired by Keith Whitley’s “Miami, My Amy” and its ability to grab hold of the listener with its powerful story of long-distance lovers. 

“As you can tell, out of that conversation came ‘Tucson Too Late,’” he said in a statement to his label.

Davis’ version follows a similar narrative as he embodies the emotions of a man who realized he may have let something (and someone) great slip through his fingers. His pain-stricken vocals let the lyrics take the lead while the tranquil instrumentals elevate the tune’s overall sentiment. 

“I really like the way we kept this very simple, we let the lyrics speak, we tried to really just kinda make the listener feel the kinda worry that this guy was going through trying to get this girl back, and I think Paul (DiGiovanni) absolutely nailed the production on it in letting the vocals speak and letting the lyrics shine.”

“Fired Up”

He went on to explain that this track feels like “something that I’ve never done,” as it holds a bit more of a traditional feel than what his fanbase usually hears from him. 

“You know, stuff like this is what I grew up on. Being able to have a song like this out that has this kinda feel, I don’t know, for me it’s fun. I’m pretty fired up about ‘Tucson Too Late’,” Davis said in conclusion.

Along with revealing the new single, the “What My World Spins Around” singer also dropped an accompanying music video on Thursday, August 10th.

The just-released video opens with the blaring sound of Davis’ alarm clock letting him he’s running late for a recording session in the studio. Once he arrives in front of the mic, the Louisiana native begins strumming his guitar and delivering the spirited lyrics. 

In between the performance clips, viewers see Davis racing against the clock in an attempt to catch up to the woman playing his love interest who got tired of him falling short of his “empty promises.” Despite his determination to mend their relationship, the country singer appears to arrive in “Tucson Too Late,” as he watches her bus pull away in the distance with the gut-wrenching feeling that he may have truly lost her this time. 

“I’m racing through the desert / Thinking I can catch her / But losing ground in this Chevrolet / That 747 somewhere between here and heaven / And heaven knows I let her slip away / I showed up and she’s gone / Guess I got to Tucson too late,” he sings on the chorus.

Latest Album

“Tucson Too Late,” follows Davis’ multi-week No. 1 smash, “Next Thing You Know,” which serves as his sixth career chart-topping hit on country radio. Both of these songs appear on his sophomore collection, Bluebird Days. 

Davis previously told Country Now that his main goal with Bluebird Days was to create “the most honest record or collection of songs that I’ve ever put out.”

It’s safe to say he achieved that through each of the 17 tracks on this project that includes “What I Wouldn’t do,” “Sunday Saints” and “You’ve Got My Number,” “Money Isn’t Real,” “What My World Spins Around,” “Buy Dirt,” and more. 

On Tour

The Louisiana native will perform his new single throughout the weekend when he takes the stage in Boise, Idaho on August 10, in Salt Lake City on August 11 and in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 12. 

Jordan Davis is currently on the road in support of Dierks Bentley’s Gravel & Gold Tour. Produced by Live Nation, Bentley’s trek kicked off on June 1 and hit a total of 28 cities. Once this run comes to a close, Davis will embark on his DAMN GOOD TIME Tour this fall. 

His headlining run begins August 31st in Atlanta, Georgia and includes stops in several more major cities like Philadelphia (10/5), New York (10/6) Boston (10/7) and more before wrapping in Las Vegas on October 21.

Tour openers include Avery Anna, Gabby Barrett, Danielle Bradberry, Flatland Calvary, Greylan James, Dylan Marlowe, Kameron Marlowe, Mike Ryan, Connor Smith and Georgia Webster on select dates.
