Kenny Chesney’s “Take Her Home” has scored the top spot on Billboard Country Airplay this week.

Country radio insider Chris Owen reports that this feat marks Chesney’s 33rd No. 1 on Billboard Country Airplay and 36th overall No. 1 at country radio.

Now with 61 Top 10 singles to his name, the Knoxville, TN native also ties one of his musical idols, George Strait for achieving the most top 10 singles since Country Airplay began in January of 1990. If he claims one more top-charting track, Chesney will become the official record-holder.

The Song Explores The Highs And Lows Of A Couple’s Journey Together

Written by Hardy, Zach Abend and Hunter Phelps, “Take Her Home” takes listeners on a journey through a love story that begins downtown in a random bar on New Years Eve. In each verse, Chesney introduces a new phase of life for this couple while lending his vocals to the raw emotions that so many fans can relate to.

“Take her home, fall in love/ Thank the good Lord up above/ That He sent one down into your arms/ And put a chain around your raise-hell heart,” he delivers on the chorus.

The smooth track also closely resembles Chesney’s 2003 chart-topper, “There Goes My Life,” which also chronicles a series of life’s most delicate chapters, but from the perspective of a young parent.

What Made Kenny Chesney Fall In Love With “Take Her Home”?

While previously reflecting on what drew him to cut his latest No. 1, Chesney admits it was the heartfelt narrative that struck a chord with him as it served as a reminder of some moments he has encountered along his own journey.

“When I heard ‘Take Her Home,’ I just laughed,” Chesney says of the song. “It was everything life is made of in less than four minutes. It’s true, honest and all the stuff that’s easy to forget. All those details and little moments? The deep cut Cheap Trick, the black-and-pink suitcase in the back of the truck, a 7 pound, 5 ounce baby? That’s what makes these kinds of life changes what they are. And it’s funny: no matter what stage you’re in, you really are always scared. That’s how you know it’s gonna be worth it.”

“Take Her Home” is featured on Kenny Chesney’s 20th studio album, BORN, which dropped in March. This 15-track project marks the country star’s fans the first taste of new music since 2020’s Here and Now.
