Lauren Watkins’ debut album, The Heartbroken Record, found her sharing an open and emotional journey with fans while showcasing the painful side of loving someone. Now, as a happily married woman, she’s moving into the next phase of her life and music, continuing to share that same level of authenticity with her new song, “Lose My Cool.”
Coincidentally, at the same time Watkins was spilling her heart about a breakup on her last project, she had already moved beyond the hurt found in those songs and was preparing to say “I do” to her husband, Will Bundy. The Heartbroken Record allowed her to close the book on the past and begin to tell the stories of her current chapter that will come to life in an upcoming collection.

“Lose My Cool” acts as the perfect introduction to Watkins’ next project as it perfectly encapsulates what she is feeling right now.
“’Lose My Cool’ is literally about falling in love with somebody and not really caring about being cool anymore. I was always kind of the girl who kept my cards very close to my chest. I never wanted to let on that I was feeling anything,” Watkins explained to Country Now. “I just tried to be the cool girl and when I met my husband now, that all went out the window. And I was like, I do not care about this anymore. I love him and I just want to just show it and be honest about it.”
The new song reflects that mindset and how Watkins currently feels personally and creatively. Her warm vocals speak straight from the heart as she illustrates how she’s no longer able to maintain that chill, laid-back façade when she’s around this special person. Instead, she ends up letting her guard down and leaning into the budding romance.
“I’d lose my cool for that/ Look like a fool for that/ Break all my rule/ And ruin my reputation/ I’d get too drunk for that/ Quit acting tough for that/ Most of the time, yeah, I know how to play it/ But that Tennessee drawl on my name when you say it/ I’d lose my cool for that/ I’d lose my cool for that,” she sings on the chorus.

With this being Lauren Watkins’ first ever love song, she admits to feeling like she’s in “a lot of uncharted territory.” However, it’s the perfect transition into this season of life that she wants to embrace with pure honesty. “It’s very freeing,” she shared.
“I’m just sort of dabbling into different stuff creatively too. And so it just to me feels like the best way to start off this new era. And I mean, it’s all still very me, but it’s just sort of a new, it’s just the natural progression of life, I guess. So I’m excited about it.”
She later added, “I love love songs, but sometimes I have a hard time with them because I think they can really quickly get super cheesy and cliche. And to me that’s just dishonest, I think why it kind of bothers me. And so I have been having fun trying to write tough love songs. I call it tough love genre because love songs can be really real and gritty and tough still. And so that’s kind of what Lose My Cool is it’s just an honest way of saying that you’re in love.”
Working Alongside Her Husband On The New Song & Project
As if the song couldn’t get more authentic, Watkins co-wrote the heartfelt tune with Nicolle Galyon, Rodney Clawson and her husband who served as producer both the song and her next record.
“It has been the coolest thing and one of just the most exciting things that I feel like I’ve gotten to do because we have written together for a long time for years, and so it just sort of made sense that he would help this next project because he’s so talented and I love what he does,” she expressed. “So I was just really excited for him to get to do it. And it’s also just a new fun dynamic to our relationship. We know what it’s like to work together, but getting to do it in this way, it’s just so much fun.”
Bundy will be sharing production duties with Joey Moi on the forthcoming collection that’s set to feature songs that Watkins has been stockpiling for a long time now. Much like “Lose My Cool,” these new tracks will showcase a side of the songstress that fans haven’t gotten to see yet.
Exploring Highs And Lows On Forthcoming Album
There will be love songs and feel-good tunes, however a few “really sad” stories will also be mixed in as a way for Lauren Watkins to show that she is “embracing the good, bad and the ugly.”
“I feel like the last era was very much, and this was intentional. I enjoyed it being this way, but it was very much wallowing in the sadness and feeling your emotions, and I’m all about that. And this era is just more embracing, we’re not wallowing it anymore, we’re just taking what’s coming and living with it and either having fun or crying about it, whatever it is you want to do that day. And so there’s definitely a song for every, it’s not just about one thing. It’s about a lot of different things.”
The Songs & Daughters / Big Loud Publishing artist is next slated to join Zach Top’s Cold Beer and Country Music Tour, starting with a stop in her old stomping grounds of Mississippi this weekend. She will also join Riley Green and Lainey Wilson on the road later this year.
