Parmalee Pushes The Envelope With New Album, ‘Fell In Love With A Cowgirl’
“It’s just a good representation of where we’ve been and where we’re going,” Parmalee’s Matt Thomas tells us.

Parmalee is setting the tone for a huge year ahead with the release of their new album, Fell In Love With A Cowgirl. The project comes hot on the heels of their fifth No. 1 hit, “Gonna Love You,” and keeps the momentum going with a fresh batch of songs that showcases their signature country-pop sound.
The band’s current chart-climbing single, “Cowgirl,” was the first track to be unveiled from the project and was quick to earn rave reviews from fans for its fast-paced tempo and high energy. While the song was mostly written when it came to the band, Parmalee put their own signature flair on it, making it a track fans will want to play on repeat.
According to lead singer Matt Thomas, the carefree tune is about finding someone who pushes you out of your comfort zone, encourages you to try new things, and makes you love every second of it.”
“I mean, who doesn’t want to fall in love with cowgirl, especially here in Nashville? Come downtown Broadway. You’ll definitely fall in love with a cowgirl,” he joked.
Parmalee saw a strong fan reaction to their advanced releases like “Cowgirl” and “Feels Like Home,” which they compared to the excitement they saw around hits like “Carolina” and “Just The Way.” While their latest project maintains the high-energy, feel-good spirit they’ve become known for, the band also explores deeper themes, including heartbreak, throughout the seven songs.
“We have a song that’s kind of like a nod to ‘Girl In Mine’ and ‘Take My Name.’ It’s called ‘Day One,’ that’s the name of the song. We have some songs that get back to our rock & roll roots and our bandy stuff. All these songs are all kind of different but cohesive in a way that makes sense,” Thomas shared.
Compared to past projects, the band made a conscious effort to push their sound in new directions. So they approached this process with a fresh perspective, making sure to balance their signature fan-favorite sounds with songs that also reflect their evolution as artists.
“We wanted to try some things that we really loved and before it might’ve been trying to keep everything so down the middle and so straight. We made sure we did the songs that we felt like our fans were going to love, but we also wanted to put some up there that we as a band really love that pushes the envelope a little bit,” he told Country Now. “Being out here writing a lot of songs and growing as you develop and evolve as a band and lyrically and that kind of stuff, it’s just a good representation of where we’ve been and where we’re going.”

Today’s collection of seven songs marks the first half of a two-part album series, with the second installment set to arrive later this year. Thomas explained that they opted to break up the project to avoid overwhelming fans with too many songs at once. By doing so, each track has a chance to stand out without getting lost in a big release.
“Let’s be honest, people’s attention span is about this big and you overload ’em with 25 songs or 15 or whatever it is, by the time they get to the last one, it’s going to be the lowest streaming one,” he shared honestly. “We just felt like that’s not put any fluff up there. Let’s pick our favorite song of this little style, let’s pick our favorite one and that’s what we’ll give people so that hopefully they can connect with it too, instead of four songs that are kind of similar in that way.”
