Loretta Lynn’s Public Memorial Service To Feature George Strait, Wynonna Judd, Darius Rucker & More

Country music icon Loretta Lynn passed away at 90 years old in her Tennessee home on Tuesday, October 4. In honor of the great legacy she left behind, CMT and Sandbox Productions have announced that a live memorial service will be held at the end of the month at the Grand Ole Opry. 

In partnership Lynn’s family, Coal Miner’s Daughter: A Celebration of the Life & Music of Loretta Lynn, will pay tribute to her life and 60-year career.

Hosted by NBC’s TODAY Show co-host and close family friend Jenna Bush Hager, the public celebration will feature special appearances by artists including Barbara Mandrell, Faith Hill and her husband Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Sheryl Crow, and more.

In addition, the star-studded lineup is set to include performances from Brandi Carlile, Crystal Gayle, Darius Rucker, Emmy Russell & Lukas Nelson, George Strait, The Highwomen with Brittney Spencer, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, Margo Price, Tanya Tucker and Wynonna Judd. 

CMT also recently dedicated its entire broadcast of the 2022 “CMT ARTISTS OF THE YEAR” celebration to Loretta Lynn’s memory. Her sisters Crystal Gayle and Peggy Sue Wright we in attendance to deliver an emotional performance of her genre-bending hit, “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” with special presentations from both Martina McBride and Tanya Tucker. 

Over the course of her legendary career, the famous native of Butcher Hollow, KY. amassed a staggering 51 Top 10 hits, garnered every accolade available in music from GRAMMY awards to induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and broke down barriers for women everywhere with songs like “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind)” and “Fist City.”

Lynn’s music and achievements were repeatedly recognized by all of the major awards bodies. She joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1962, won four GRAMMY awards, seven American Music Awards and eight Country Music Association awards. Lynn was also the first woman to win the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music awards for Entertainer of the Year. She was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008, and was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 2003 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013. She sold over 45 million albums worldwide.

The public memorial service is set to air commercial-free on Sunday, October 30th at 7p/6c, exclusively on CMT. Two additional, commercial-free encores will be shown on Wednesday, November 2nd at 8p/7c and Sunday, November 6th at 11a/10c. The special will also be made available on Paramount+ in early 2023. 

Lynn’s memorial service will be open to the general public with a limited number of tickets available.
