Chart-topping country star and American Idol judge Luke Bryan recently took time out fo his day to surprise a Memphis-based nurse who is working tirelessly on the front lines in a hospital’s intensive care unit.

Cassidy Gubin, who has spent the past few months working 12-hour shifts in the ICU at Baptist Memorial Hospital, joined Good Morning America to chat about her efforts helping COVID-19 patients.

While she admits there’s no other job she would rather be doing, Gubin said that she’s faced some trying times over the past few weeks.

“I work in an intensive care unit and you see things that you would think you would only hear on TV or see and you couldn’t really imagine,” Gubin shared.

While chatting with GMA‘s T.J. Holmes, Gubin revealed that her escape from the stress is going on long walks while listening to music, specifically listening to her favorite singer, Luke Bryan.

That’s when she got the surprise of her life as Luke Bryan joined their Zoom call.

“Is this real?” Gubin said, shocked.

“Thank you for everything you are doing on the frontline, you’re inspiring people like us,” the “One Margarita” singer told her. “We’re told to sit home and you’re told to go straight into the hospital where actively sick patients are so you are certainly a hero to me.”

“You have no idea how much that means to me, and thank you so much for your music because it’s all I listen to, it always makes me smile,” she gushed.

As Bryan told her goodbye, she said this was the “coolest thing” she’s ever done.

Thankfully, Gubin said that the situation has stabilized at her hospital over the last few weeks.
