Luke Combs graced the stage at Scotland’s Hydro Arena for a headlining performance on Monday, October 16, and paid homage to his Scottish heritage by sporting a custom-crafted kilt during his encore performance.
Following an electrifying 18-song set, Combs returned to the stage at the Glasgow arena for a one-song encore, donning a traditional Scottish kilt, a sporran, his signature black Columbia PFG shirt and a Blue Otter Polarized hat as well as black cowboy boots.
Sports A Kilt
“Scotland y’all have time for one more song tonight,” Combs said. ”Well listen, we have three and a half minutes together. I don’t know when I’m going to be back, but I’m gonna be back I promise you that… I want everything you got for the next three and a half minutes. My name is Luke Combs until next time, I love you baby, come on!”
He then went on to deliver an energy-filled performance of his chart-topping hit, “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” which prompted a massive sing-along from the capacity crowd.
Custom-Fitting
According to the Glasgow Times, Combs visited MacGregor and MacDuff’s flagship Bath Street store to be custom-fitted for a kilt. The publication reported that Combs reached out via Instagram and revealed that he “grew up attending the Highland Games watching his cousin win world records in the throwing events.”
Glasgow Times also shared that the singer opted for a Frasure tartan, honoring his Scottish heritage and his mother’s maiden name.
“We were delighted to help Luke connect with his Scottish heritage during his visit to Glasgow. It has been a joy to work with him over the past few weeks for his specially made kilt and have him visit us in-store for an authentic kilt shop experience,” Monique McPhie, the Head of Marketing at MacGregor and MacDuff, told the Glasgow Times. ”We are incredibly appreciative that he chose to represent in one of our kilts during the Scottish stop on his world tour.”
The kilt, a skirt-type garment with pleats, is a standard form of men’s Highland Dress, according to Lochcarron Of Scotland. In an article titled “The History of the Kilt,” the website states that a “true Scotsman” wears his kilt with much pride and honor.
The kilt reportedly honors a man’s “heritage and tradition” and it is often worn at important events such as weddings, graduations, and funerals. The kilt became a tradition in the 16th century and has gone on to be worn by a wider group of people.
