Maddie & Tae’s Maddie Font and Taylor Kerr are opening up about their flaws in their brand new, empowering track, “Woman You Got.”

The romantic love song has the country duo being completely transparent, as they playfully highlight the loveable yet unavoidable character traits they possess that makeup what is considered a beautiful mess.

“I talk smack / I make messes / I win bread / I’m kinda selfish / Don’t trust me in the kitchen / Don’t dare me / I ain’t chicken,” they sing, noting different aspects of a newly engaged woman’s personality on the song that features a simple drum beat and swift chord progression.

Once the chorus hits, Maddie & Tae show off their signature harmonies on lyrics that give warning to their separate spouses that although they’ll always remain committed in their relationship, they’re not perfect, but a work in progress.

You say you love me, I know you love me / Love that you love me, baby / I know you know me, but if I know me / I’m gonna drive you crazy / The thing about me is I’m always getting better / The truth is, boy, it might take forever but / When it comes to loving you / I’m never gonna stop / And that’s the kind of woman you got,” they sing.

Maddie & Tae’s “Woman You Got” is one of the most personal songs the duo has released to date. The inspiration for the song was taken from real-life, as both singers are still fresh in their recent marriages to their respective husbands. (Fans may remember Maddie married Jonah Font in November of 2019, while Tae tied the knot with songwriter Josh Kerr in February of 2020.)

“This song is the most autobiographical song we have ever written,” Maddie said of the song in a press release. “Our hope is that this song is an anthem for all our fans, male and female!”

“‘Woman You Got’ was a shocker to us to be the first single off of our third project because we’ve always enjoyed the song, but …. it was a sleeper, a sneaky one that you really don’t know what you’re going to get into when you go into the studio,” Tae added. “But after we cut it and did our vocals, we just really felt like it had come to life and something that we wanted to release first as our first single from this project. And it’s a really fun love song; very autobiographical of Maddie [and] I.”

“Woman You Got,” which impacts country radio on April 19, follows Maddie & Tae’s No. 1 hit, “Die From A Broken Heart.” The song, which they co-wrote with Laura Veltz and Mark Holman, is the first offering from the country duo’s upcoming third album.
