After taking “Girl” to the top of the charts, Maren Morris is back at country radio with “The Bones,” the second single from her chart-topping album, GIRL.
Directed by Alex Ferrari, “The Bones” features footage of Morris and her husband, fellow singer/songwriter Ryan Hurd, as they vacation in Hawaii. The clips are pieced together in a way that make viewers feel as if they’re watching a home video.
“The Road to Hana is beautiful but a hell of a trek… kind of like the most meaningful & lasting human relationships we get to have. This is our journey on film for “The Bones,” Morris shared on Instagram following the debut of the video.
The Texas native co-wrote “The Bones” with Jimmy Robbins and Laura Veltz.
“Laura brought the title “The Bones” and she’s always so good at bringing stuff like that to the table.,” Morris recalls of the day they wrote the song. “And, it’s always like a weird title and that’s why she and I get along so well is I’m willing to get weird. And-but she also knows how to make it so sentimental and real life.”
From there, the co-writers began chatting about their relationships and how “gracious” they were of their respective partners.
“I was really feeling so solidified in my relationship with my then-Fiance and now Husband. She was feeling so amazing with her marriage and her children. And, Jimmy just found out that his wife was pregnant,” she explains. “It was like we all were super solid with our partners and so writing this song about like the bones of a house, you know even if a hurricane comes, a storm, if the wolves come the structure of the house is still standing. The foundation is still there. So you could rip it down to the studs and the foundation of this relationship isn’t going anywhere.”
