Megan Moroney joins Alex Cooper on an episode of the Call Her Daddy Podcast to finally clear up the rumors that have been circulating about her and Morgan Wallen since going viral with her hit song, “Tennessee Orange,” in 2022.

The pair discussed Moroney’s high school days, her early career, breakups, and more, but the most anticipated topic they covered was her rumored relationship with Wallen. It all started when the songstress caused a frenzy online after dropping a promo for “Tennessee Orange,” which featured her in a Tennessee Volunteers t-shirt that she later confirmed once belonged to Morgan Wallen. This also led fans to speculate that the song itself was written about the “Lies, Lies, Lies” singer.

The Timeline Of Moroney And Wallen’s Relationship

While sitting with Cooper, Moroney explained that it was 2020 and she was a senior in college when another fellow country singer/songwriter, Jon Langston, introduced her to Wallen. From there, they formed a friendship that eventually turned into something more.

“His Dangerous album wasn’t even out yet. We were friends for a long time…We were not just friends and now we’re friends,” she said while explaining the timeline.

The Georgia native went on to say that they “never exclusively” dated because their “insane” schedules made it incredibly difficult to find enough time to spend together.

“When we try to hang out, it’s like, okay, we have this one day of the whole month where we’re both maybe in town and then someone’s got something going on. It was that sort of thing.”

All this time, Moroney admits she has made an effort to keep a tight lip when asked about their connection in order to respect the fact that Wallen is “a very private person.” However, it’s been a few years, and she was finally ready to put the rumors to bed.

“I have tried to avoid that in every single interview I’ve ever done, but we’re here now and it’s time has passed, and all is well.”

Did Wallen Inspire The Hit Song?

The one question the “I’m Not Pretty” singer will likely never answer is whether or not “Tennessee Orange” was actually inspired by Morgan Wallen. So when Cooper brought it up, she simply responded, “I will not say who my songs are about ever.”

Moroney also admitted that she has “no idea” if the country star has ever written a song about her.

The Current State Of Moroney’s Love Life

Fans have truly come to love Megan Moroney for her ability to share her most vulnerable self and express raw feelings of love and heartbreak through her music. Most recently, she unveiled her Am I Okay? album, which offers a slew of songs that take a deep dive into her Emo Cowgirl image. One track in particular titled “Hell Of A Show” finds her reflecting on the fact that even though she is in the midst of living out her dreams on stage, behind the scenes she was dealing with a toxic person who had her holding back tears just moments before stepping in front of fans.

Situations like this really put things into perspective for the rising star and are now the reason why she is happy to be living the single life.

“I’m so single. I love it. I sleep so good. Nobody’s son is stressing me out,” she joked. “I am in REM sleep every night and I feel like all of my free time is being spent with my girlfriends and I can really enjoy being in the moment.”

“I’m way happier single, for now at least. Everything is so new sill so I’m enjoying not having to worry about that part of things,” she added.

The 26-year-old continues to bring that same joy to fans each night while on the road as a supporting act for Kenny Chesney’s Sun Goes Down Tour 2024. There are only a few more chances to catch Moroney on this stadium run before it officially comes to a close on August 25.
