Mitchell Tenpenny debuted a new song and music video for his song “Elephant In The Room” featuring Teddy Swims Friday (Apr. 29).
Tenpenny described the song as a “love story.”
“‘Elephant in the Room’ is about that innate thing in us as humans when we can feel it when someone is watching us. This song is a love story about two people who have this kind of chemistry and energy happening from across the room. And everyone else can feel it too because it’s so powerful,” Tenpenny said.
“’Cause there’s an elephant in the room / And now it’s looking at me and you, you, you / Somebody better make a move / So, what we gonna do / With this elephant in the room?,” Tenpenny and Swims sing on the chorus of their pop-leaning collaboration.
The music video stars both artists and features them vying for the love of the same woman. Tenpenny’s character is married to the female love interest, but their relationship is rocky, prompting Swims’ character to swoop in and make a move.
The video concludes with a “crime of passion” where the female love interest kills Tenpenny’s character and then pins the murder on Swims’ character, leading to his arrest. The video was directed by Stephen Kinigopoulos and Alexa Stone (Running Bear Films).
Tenpenny described the video as “just insanely fun,” adding that he hoped fans would “enjoy it.”
Mitchell Tenpenny also shared how he and Teddy Swims decided to collaborate.
“I connected with Teddy a few years ago over DMs on Instagram to tell him how refreshing it was to hear a voice like his. When we met, we became instant friends and began writing together,” Tenpenny explained.
Both Tenpenny and Swims teased the song on their social media channels prior to its release with Swims saying it was a “full circle moment for [him].”
Tenpenny’s current single at country radio is “Truth About You.” He debuted the song for his fans on TikTok before it became the highest steaming debut of his career and they requested that the song go to radio. The song has since risen more than 20 spots on the charts and reached over 95 million on-demand streams, Sony Music Nashville indicated via their release.
Tenpenny will also join Luke Bryan on the Raised Up Right Tour beginning on June 9. He’ll also join Luke Combs this fall on the “Middle Of Somewhere” Tour in Bangor, Maine on September 2 and 3 at the Maine Savings Amphitheater.
Meanwhile, Swims is currently performing on his “Tough Love” World Tour, which concludes on June 9 in Glasgow.
