Russell Dickerson has earned his highest streaming debut this week thanks to his latest single, “Happen To Me.” The party anthem of the summer gained tremendous traction online, earning over 25 million views across social media, and continued to rise in popularity with its release. Thanks to all the fans streaming this song, it was sent straight to country radio with 66 total station adds on March 10.
The multi-Platinum artist was the No. 2 most added at country radio this week and racked up the largest number of streams in Triple Tigers Records’ label history. Taking to social media to thank his fans for showing the tune so much love, he said “I didn’t think this was gonna happen…thank you guys for the love.”
“Country Radio’s response to this single has been nothing short of amazing”, says VP/Promotion, Raffaella Braun added. “66 stations in just over a week since release exceeded even our own lofty goals. This truly is the Song of the Summer!”
Written by Dickerson, Chase McGill, Jessie Jo Dillon and Chris LaCorte, “Happen To Me” illustrates a care-free night out between a couple of strangers who are looking for nothing but to cure heartache with some no-strings-attached fun.
Blending elements of his signature pop country sound with an infections beat and sing-along worthy lyrics, Dickerson created the perfect anthem for anyone looking to let their stresses go and just enjoy living life in the moment.
“And now she’s singin’/ Girls Just Wanna Have Fun/ at the top of her lungs/ Don’t even know she’s ’bout to wreck someone/ And, boy’s, I’m in trouble now, ain’t even tryna get out/ So, come on, baby, take me down, down, down, yeah/ Don’t know what happened tonight/ don’t know what happened last week/ Don’t know what happened to her, but she’s ’bout to happеn to me,” he sings on the electric chorus.
Fans all over social media have been singing along to the chorus that pays tribute to Cyndi Lauper’s iconic “Girls Just Want To Have Fun.” Dickerson raised the excitment even further when he started a viral dance trend, encouraging users to blast the tune and dance like nobody’s watching. He’s recruited family members and fellow artists like Maddie & Tae to join him in demonstrating their best dance moves using the track.
“When I say girls just wanna have fun, I mean @maddieandtae just wanna have fun!!,” Dickerson wrote in a recent video featuring the female country duo.
In speaking with Country Now, Dickerson noted how many fans have pointed out that “Happen To Me” easily acts as the follow-up to 2017’s girls night out anthem, “MGNO.”
“It’s got a little ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ in there and the fans, all the comments are like, ‘oh my gosh, this is ‘MGNO’’ from my first album. ‘MGNO’ part two.”

The fresh new tune follows Russell Dickerson run of fan-favorites including his fifth No. 1 hit, “God Gave Me A Girl,” “Good Day to Have a Great Day,” and his latest single, “Bones.”
Fans can catch Dickerson on the road with his RUSSELLMANIA TOUR 2025. The first leg, dubbed Round 1, kicks off March 14 in Nashville, TN and runs through April with stops in Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado and more.
Round 2 of the trek will continue into the summer, bringing the hitmaker to amphitheaters across the summer, with direct support from Jake Scott and Niko Moon on select dates.
