Shay Mooney and his wife, Hannah took to social media to introduce their new baby boy, Abram Shay, who they welcomed into the world on January 17.
The singer/songwriter, known as one half of the country duo Dan + Shay, was captured in a heartfelt moment as he softly sang their 2017 track, “When I Pray For You,” to his newborn while holding him close to his chest in the hospital chair.
“Grateful doesn’t begin to cover it. ❤️” he wrote in the caption.
Mooney’s wife posted the same clip adding that this was the first time their newborn got to experience the power of his dad’s music.
She wrote, “Abram Shay, you’re so loved and so prayed over, baby boy. Thankful for all that God has done for us this week 🤍 “
Plenty of fans and fellow country stars flooded the comment section with loving words and congratulatory messages.
Congrats brother!!!❤️❤️former Rascal Flatts member Jay DeMarcus wrote while country newcomer Alana Springsteed said, “dude congrats!!!!! he’s perfect.”
The couple first announced they were expecting another child on August 12 with a sweet video showcasing their sons’ reactions to the news.
Their son Asher, 5, appeared to be a bit upset that he wasn’t going to get a sister this time around but he handled the news well.
“Do you remember when mommy told you they were going to call us this week and tell us if we’re having a boy or girl? Do you think you’re going to have a baby brother or a baby sister?,” Hannah asks him.
The little one revealed that he was set on his new sibling being a sister, but he was sad to hear that he would be getting another brother instead.
Their two-year-old, Ames, seemed to be a bit more receptive of the news although he also predicted a girl.
After meeting through social media, Shay and Hannah immediately connected and began dating. Mooney proposed on August 9, 2016. In the midst of wedding planning, the couple learned they were expecting their first child, Asher James.
After welcoming him on January 24, 2017, Shay and Hannah tied the knot on Mooney’s family farm on October 20, 2017. Asher, who was 9 months old at the time, took part in the ceremony as did Dan Smyers, Mooney’s musical partner.
They later welcomed Ames Alexander on February 21, 2020.
Dan + Shay recently celebrated the fifth anniversary of their fan-favorite track, “Tequila” with an intimate acoustic performance. As bandmates Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney sat in the studio surrounded by just their illuminating vocals and charming guitar strums, they reminded listeners of the power this song holds at its core.
Co-written by Smyers alongside Jordan Reynolds and Nicolle Galyon, “Tequila” was first released on January 10, 2018, and serves as the lead single off the duo’s third, self-titled studio album.
Last year, the duo spent the year touring with Carly Pearce and Old Dominion on Kenny Chesney’s Here and Now Tour. Since Mooney will most likely be focusing his time at home with his family, they do have several appearances scheduled for festivals this summer, starting with Country Fest in Cadott, WI on June 23.
