Tim McGraw Reveals the Biggest Difference Between Music and Acting

Tim McGraw has long balanced two passions, music and acting, and while he loves both, he admits they fulfill him in very different ways.
“They’re two different animals. I mean they’re cousins for sure, but they’re two different animals,” McGraw explained during a recent conversation with his record label. “Working in TV and film you just get to work with some great people and learn so much, and when you’re acting opposite these fantastic legendary actors it just makes you better at what you do and you learn.”

The country superstar has starred in an impressive number of movies and TV shows, including Friday Night Lights, The Blind Side, and most recently, 1883, alongside his wife, fellow country star Faith Hill. While he enjoys the challenge that comes with stepping into new roles, there’s one thing he misses when he’s on set instead of on stage.
“The worst part about it is the waiting. There’s a lot of waiting that goes on, and there’s no instant gratification,” he shared. “It’s hard to know if you’re doing a good job or not because it’s not like people are going to applaud after you do a scene. You know, everybody moves on and you’re leaving going, ‘Was that good? Was that alright? Do I need to do another take?’”
For McGraw, performing live offers that immediate connection, something no film set can replicate.

The “I Like It, I Love It” singer has been keeping a relatively low profile this year while recovering from multiple surgeries. But this summer, Tim McGraw made his long-awaited return to the stage, and to the spotlight, for a string of shows.
Ahead of his return in July, McGraw caught fans off guard with a bold new look, debuting a completely bald head around Nashville. The fresh style quickly went viral, and even McGraw was surprised by how much attention it received.
“You know, it was one of those things I wanted to try, and I did it. The main thing is my wife loved it. So, I think I’m going to keep it for a while,” he told Bobby Bones.
Now back in full swing, McGraw is set to wrap up 2025 with a limited engagement at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace during the National Finals Rodeo. Tim McGraw: Live in Vegas will take place on December 4, 6, 12, and 13, 2025. The country superstar stepped in to fill in for Dolly Parton, who was unable to perform following a recent health issue.
