Tucker Wetmore just announced that he will be making his Grand Ole Opry debut on September 10, 2024. He shared the news in a video via social media that finds him breaking down in the arms of his family members as he realizes his dreams are coming true.
The singer first captivated country fans with his twangy vocals in addicting songs like “Wine Into Whiskey” and “Wind Up Missin’ You.” The success of these tracks has since opened up a slew of doors for Wetmore, allowing him to take his career to the next level. His latest accomplishment will involve him taking the stage at one of Nashville’s most iconic venues and putting his talent on display in the same circle where many of his musical heroes have stood before him.
At the start of the clip, Wetmore says he’s at his grandma’s house and embraces her with a hug immediately upon entering. She then hands over an incredibly sentimental gift – his late grandpa’s black leather motorcycle jacket – before noting that there’s something else that his grandpa would have been “very proud” to give him.
With emotion building up in her voice, she prompts him to open a box. Wetmore appears hesitant at first and asks, “Am I gonna cry, grandma?” to which she responds, “I am.”
As soon as the Washington native realizes what’s inside the box, his eyes widen and his mouth falls open in shock.
“Are you serious right now?” Wetmore asks while staring at the envelope. He then falls silent as tears well up in his eyes and goes to his grandma for another hug of support.
The letter reads, “We know the Grand Ole Opry has played a pivotal role in your journey and we’d love to officially make you a part of ours. The Opry is delighted to formally invite you to step into the circle for your debut on September 10th 2024. We look forward to celebrating this significant milestone where it all began – The Grand Ole Opry.”
A round of cheers can be heard around the room as Wetmore enthusiastically yells, “I’m playing the fricken Opry. That’s crazy. That’s the coolest, probably, moment of my journey so far. The way it’s presented by my family, I would’ve wanted nothing else,” he added with so much emotion in his voice.
The video ends with Wetmore’s mom saying how proud she is as they hug in celebration.
In his caption, the singer/songwriter further acknowledged just how much this invitation means to him and explained how this opportunity is further proof that every risk he has taken in pursuit of his career has paid off.
He wrote, “Wow, I don’t really have the words to describe how grateful and honored I am right now. The Opry was one of the reasons why I moved to this town to chase this dream and has been a goal of mine for as long as I can remember. Not only being invited, but getting to share such an important part in my career with my family and those I love the most brings me to tears just thinkin about. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I’ll see y’all on Sept. 10th @opry”
Tucker Wetmore’s upcoming debut at the Opry will take place less than a month before kicking off his first-ever headline tour in Statesboro, Georgia on Oct. 4. The 16-date Waves On A Sunset Tour 2024 will feature support from rising artists Hannah McFarland, Eli Winders, and Ashland Craft.
