Dierks Bentley has many talented acts joining him as openers throughout his GRAVEL & GOLD TOUR, including rising songstress, Mae Estes. During a recent stop in Scranton, PA the audience got to experience Estes’ talent twice in one night as she made a surprise appearance during Bentley’s set to perform a rendition of Vince Gill’s “Don’t Let Our Love Start Slippin’ Away.”
“Brought @maeestes up to sing a little @vincegillofficial with us in Scranton. You never know what’s going to happen on the #GravelAndGoldTour,” Bentley added in his recent post on Instagram.
In the video, he and Estes were captured practicing their harmonies for the upcoming performance. Seconds later the clip cuts to their on-stage moment that had the audience roaring with applause.
According to Estes’ post, this was her first time ever sharing the stage with the “Drunk On A Plane” singer.
“We’re gonna do something for the very first time tonight because we got a friend on this show, we don’t get the chance to do too many shows with her,” Bentley can be heard telling the crowd in Scranton.
Bentley Was Blown Away The First Time He Heard Estes Sing
He went on to explain that the first time he heard Estes sing was at Nashville’s Station Inn and he recalled being blown away by her talent, so much so that he decided to bring her on the road one year later.
“I remember thinking, ‘man, she’s really good. Maybe I should try to help her…and then like two days later I saw she was on the Grand Old Opry. I’m like, already she’s already on her way she doesn’t need my help. But it was really a dream come true to get her on this tour because we’re such big fans. You probably saw us watching her show side stage over there. We’re gonna try and do a song together for you guys, we have not really rehearsed this, we’ll see how it goes.”
Despite the lack of rehearsal, the pair of artists knocked this performance out of the park and certainly made any ‘90s country fans in the audience proud. They took turns delivering the verses to the 1992 single off Gill’s I Still Believe In You album, before coming together with seamless harmonies on the chorus that had the crowd on their feet and singing along.
@maeestes Well that felt like lightening ⚡️ Thank you to #dierksbentley and crew for giving this dreamer some more fuel to keep on dreamin! One more night on the #gravelandgoldtour in #canandaigua tonight! @dierksbentley #vincegill ♬ original sound – Mae Estes
Effortlessly Captured The Song’s Message
The No. 1 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks perfectly captures the hard work it takes to keep a relationship going, especially when life gets in the way. Bentley and Estes took on the roles of the couple in the narrative and emphasized the importance of communication and keeping an open heart while letting their talent fill the stage.
“Don’t let our love start slipping, love start slipping away/ ‘Cause the life we’ve been living gets harder every day/ Don’t let our love start slipping, love start slipping away,” they sang on the chorus.
Estes later noted that the performance felt like “lightening” and then proceeded to express how thankful she was towards Bentley and his team for “giving this dreamer some more fuel to keep on dreamin’!”
The pair had so much fun with this performance that Estes returned to the stage again the following night to help him deliver the song in Canandaigua, NY.
