Scotty McCreery gave an impressive performance of Deana Carter’s debut single “Strawberry Wine” on Wednesday (July 1) evening during the CMA Summer Stay-Cay special.
“I’m excited to be apart of this,” McCreery boasted as he introduced his performance. “I get the pleasure of singing one of my favorite songs, it’s one of the biggest in ’90s history and in Country music history.”
“Strawberry Wine” was written by Matraca Berg and Gary Harrison, and was released as Carter’s debut single in August 1996. The track appears on Carter’s debut album, Did I Shave My Legs For This?.
The song also became Carter’s first No. 1 hit on both the US Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) Chart and the Canadian RPM Country Tracks.
McCreery recently celebrated his third consecutive chart-topping single with “In Between.” He also made Billboard chart history with “In Between” as it became the second-largest leap to No. 1 on the chart since 1991.
Other performances during the CMA Summer Stay-Cay include Kane Brown, Brett Young, Lauren Alaina, Cassadee Pope, Lady Antebellum and more, hosted by Lindsay Ell and Jimmie Allen.
The CMA Summer Stay-Cay Presented by Budweiser Nitro Reserve Gold aired live on Wednesday (July 1) on YouTube and Facebook at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT. Watch more unforgettable CMA Fest performances from the past 16 years on “CMA Best of Fest” Monday, July 13, 2020 at 8|7c on ABC.
