Nate Smith is bringing the heat this fall! In addition to his upcoming headline run, the ACM New Male Artist of the Year has announced that his highly anticipated sophomore album, California Gold, will be released on October 4.
To get fans excited about the new music, Smith has also unveiled the track that will appear at the top of the collection, “Fix What You Didn’t Break.” This song finds the country singer reaching into his pop/rock influences to create a unique genre-bending country song that still highlights his signature rasp and impressive range.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of big epic pop rock songs of the 2000’s,” Smith shared while discussing the sonic inspirations behind new song. “Bands like Lifehouse, Goo Goo Dolls, 3 Doors Down were all influences in my early teens. ‘Fix What You Didn’t Break,’ to me, feels like the perfect blend of 2000’s rock and heartfelt country. I want to make love songs that cut deep but are still tough.”
He was able to bring this vision to life with the help of Ashley Gorley, Lindsay Rimes and Taylor Phillips, which happens to be the same group of songwriters he wrote the record-breaking No. 1, “World On Fire” with. Together, they exceeded Smith’s expectations and created what he deems to be one of his favorite songs in his catalog as it portrays a powerful message of finding healing in a person who didn’t have any part in causing the heartbreak he’s enduring.
“It will be the first song on my new album out this year. I chose this to come out first because I feel like it really showcases my influences and sonic taste. It’s a bit of a theme song for this new project!! Hope ya love it,” he added.
Along with “Fix What You Didn’t Break,” the 16-track album will include previously released tracks like “Wish I Never Felt,” collaborations with Avril Lavigne and Alesso and his RIAA-certified gold track “Bulletproof.”

“Bulletproof” Leads To Record-Breaking Achievement
Nate Smith recently reached a historic career milestone with “Bulletproof.” The song became his 3rd consecutive multi-week No. 1 on the Mediabase chart, making him the first artist to start their career with three consecutive multi-week No. 1 records in R&R/Media base history.
“Bulletproof” follows the success of his blazing tune “World On Fire,” which spent 10 consecutive weeks on top of the Billboard Country Airplay Chart and three weeks on top of the Mediabase chart while his first No. 1 single “Whiskey On You” spent two weeks atop the Mediabase chart and one week on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. All together, Smith’s first three singles have spent a total of 14 weeks at No. 1 between the two charts.
