American Idol returned Sunday (March 15) with an all-new batch of contestants hoping to earn a ticket to Hollywood.
17-year-old “Snake Charmer” from Kansas, Makayla Brownlee won over the judges vote with her impressive Dixie Chicks cover of “Travelin’ Soldier.”
“Great Job,” said Luke Bryan.
“What a surprise like a snake in the water, Makayla you’ve got a really good voice on you. You know I’m not a country aficionado but it’s definitely something that I would be tuning into,” Katy Perry complimented.
“You’ve got this little yodel cry, that’s a real magic trick you’ve got, It’s a signature for you,” said Lionel Richie.
“As far as the competition, you know we have our girl country singers, it’s really really strong this year. Get ready for a dog fight in Hollywood but I am ready to see you get in there and shake it up,” Bryan added.
With three “yes” votes, Brownlee is going to Hollywood! Click above to watch Makayla Brownlee’s audition.
American Idol airs Sundays at 8/7c on ABC.
