Kimberly Williams-Paisley, actress and wife of country superstar Brad Paisley, reveals she’s been “going through a thing.” In a new social media post, the actress, New York Times bestselling author, and entrepreneur shares a positive and honest health update.
Her statement begins by sharing details from an “embarrassing and scary” event that took place during an Alzheimer’s event in Nashville almost two years ago, where she lost her voice on stage and “it never quite came back.” She went on to say after a couple of “challenging years,” she is finally getting answers and is on the road to recovery.
“I have damage to my laryngeal nerve. I tried everything I could to heal it (so thank you but please don’t give me any tips!). I was finally able to have surgery this week at @vanderbilthealth with expert surgeons, & it is sounding so much better!! I have a badass scar that’s smiling at me across my neck,” Williams-Paisley wrote alongside a photo of her in the hospital and another close-up image of the scar she got as a result of the surgery.
With this being such a difficult time, Williams-Paisley admits she has not wanted to share much information with the public until now because it “felt too vulnerable.” This experience has also taught her to never take the little things for granted, like her ability to “use my voice,” whether it be for her career, for a good cause, making a joke, expressing herself or at a “loud dinner party.” Instead of being able to speak up, she has labeled herself “the quietest person in the room.”
“I’ve felt meek. New people I’ve met thought I was a shy or reserved person. I’ve felt trapped in my body,” she continued. “I’ve been through shame & self-loathing, all kinds of training, breathing techniques, & braces & healing & laughing & crying & explaining. I’ve met many amazing helpers along the way who’ve become amazing friends & I’m feeling SO GRATEFUL.”
Williams-Paisley then gave a more in-depth look into what the surgery entailed as she said, “I was awake for the three-hour laryngoplasty to plump up my paralyzed vocal cord so it hits the other one (She’s so happy not to be doing all the work by herself anymore. She was EXHAUSTED). I watched a lot of it on a video screen above my head as it happened and all I can say is MODERN MEDICINE IS MIRACULOUS.”
Finding The Positive In The Situation
The post ended with Williams-Paisley sharing the light that she was able to find in this moment of darkness that had lasted two full years. The Lucky 7 actress admits she has “found power” while finding new ways to use her voice, healed some old wounds along the way and is coming out on the other side an even healthier version of herself.
“I’ve learned the strength & beauty of silence. I’ve become a serious meditator. I’m deadlifting over a hundred pounds. I’m taking better care of my body. I’m managing stress. I’m dissolving shame. I’m feeling more whole, empowered & joyful. As I learned from a recent @katecbowler podcast, if you’re going through hell, don’t come out empty-handed. Was losing my voice worth it? Mm, not exactly. Was it worthless? Not for a second.”
The Timeline Of Williams’ Love Story With Brad Paisley
The love story between Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley began when the critically acclaimed singer first noticed the stunning actress in the 1991 film Father of the Bride. A decade later he asked her to appear in his music video for the tune, “I’m Gonna Miss Her,” and the rest is history.
“It felt natural to ask her to be in it” he shared with Good Housekeeping. “Even though I didn’t know if she was married, divorced, or just out of rehab.”
Williams took on the role and the pair began dating around the same time.
Paisley proposed on the same pier in Venice Beach where he first professed his love for Williams just six months prior. They tied the knot on March 15, 2003, at the Stauffer Chapel on the Pepperdine University campus and are now parents to their two sons – William Huckleberry (born 2007) and Jasper Warren (born 2009).
The pair have made it their mission to give back to the Nashville community however they can. They have continued to do that in a variety of ways including The Store, an establishment that opened on March 12th, 2020 with the goal of creating “a unique shopping experience that upholds the dignity of its customers.” The business is still up and running and continues to make a positive impact on the community.
