It’s a girl for Canaan Smith and his wife, Christy!

The singer/songwriter announced the arrival of his first child with a short video posted to Instagram Friday (Nov. 1). In the clip, Smith shows off his brand new baby girl, who is swaddled in his lap, then pans over to his wife, who appears to be sleeping in the hospital bed following the delivery.

“I’ve tried putting words to this but keep erasing them cause nothing says it,” he captioned the clip. “For now, I’ll just say thank you Jesus for the precious gift of life and unconditional love. Virginia Rose is perfect inside out. And so is her mom.”

His daughter’s adorable name is likely a nod to the state of Virginia as he grew up in the town of Williamsburg.

The couple announced that they were expecting their first child in September, after five years of marriage. They opted not to learn the baby’s gender beforehand so that they would be surprised in the delivery room.

Congratulations to the family!
