Chris Young is opening up about his 60-pound weight loss and revealing the lifestyle changes that he made during his fitness journey.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Young, 38, did not disclose what motivated him to lose weight, he responded, “It was time.”
Young embarked on his health and fitness journey at the same time he began working on new music earlier this year.
“I knew I was going to be in the studio a lot and I was like, ‘You know what? I want to work on myself as well as the music all at the same time this year,’” he explained.
Diet
The “Voices” singer also shared that he has become quite the chef at home, adding more protein into his diet.
“I love to cook and so I just lean more into that,” Young continued. However, he also admitted that “it sucks” having to trade food that he enjoys for healthier options.
“I couldn’t cut certain things out,” Young added. “If I was going to say I cut anything out of my diet, it was I didn’t order pizza at midnight.”
Fitness
Going to the gym has become a part of his daily life even while touring and he often shared photos from his workout sessions with his band and touring personnel.
“I get a jump start on the day and go to the gym, that’s beneficial.”
“Down 60 Pounds”
The interview comes just weeks after Chris Young first revealed his 60-pound weight loss to fans.
“This year has been dedicated to a lot of work on myself. Music wise AND in the gym,” Young captioned the snapshot. “Still not done, but down 60 pounds, so yeah… Gonna leave this here #cheers #fitnessmotivation.”
Earlier this year, Chris Young previously opened up about his intentions to shed some pounds in an interview with PEOPLE.
“I’ve been cooking my own food a lot more. I wasn’t taking the time to [cook for myself]. I’m also working out a little bit more,” Young detailed at the time.
New Music
In addition to working on his health, Chris Young is also preparing to release a new album and recently gave fans a taste of what they can expect with the release of his new summer anthem, “Young Love & Saturday Nights.”
The track was Co-produced by Young with Corey Crowder and Chris DeStefano and leans into David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel” signature guitar lick. This made the legendary rocker a writer on the song along with Ashley Gorley, Jesse Frasure and Josh Thompson.
“When I first heard this song, I immediately connected with the groove and the lyrics with nods to so many things I can personally relate to,” Young previously explained of the track. “It made me think back to when I first got started playing country dive bars and it was the same kind of thing. I drove a beat-up truck to and from gigs where I played music hoping the audiences would relate… and if I’m being honest, hoping the girls would like it too,” he adds. “Young love and Saturday nights are things that just go together and this feels like one of those big summer songs where you just want to roll the windows down, crank up the volume, and just drive around to it.”
Additionally, Chris Young’s current single “Looking For You” is climbing the charts at Country radio and sits in the Top 15.
Chris Young has several tour dates on the books, including upcoming stops in Wisconsin, Indiana, Massachusetts, Texas, and more. Click HERE to see if he’s coming to a city near you
