The wait for new music from Kelsea Ballerini is almost over.

The superstar has been teasing new music for months and finally shared details about it with fans during her #askkelsea Twitter chat on Tuesday evening (Sept. 3).

Questions for Ballerini poured in, with many of them focusing on her new material. She remained coy at first, only revealing that her new single will be released Thursday at midnight.

As the questions continued, she divulged even more details about the song. Admitting it’s her “most emotional” single to date, Ballerini shared that the song is about “zipping up the mess” and said her favorite lyric is “dancing with your best foot forward.”

Moments later, she shared that she co-wrote the song on February 21 of this year with Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins and that she cried when she heard it.

Ballerini finally gave up the title of the track later in the chat, revealing it to be “Homecoming Queen.” When a fan asked if she was ever homecoming queen in high school, Ballerini answered and added a bit more insight into the song.

“I definitely was not, haha,” she shared. “It’s a metaphor for somebody that seemingly has it all together and polished from the outside looking in.”

“Homecoming Queen” is the follow-up to Ballerini’s massive chart-topping hit, “Miss Me More,” and is the lead single from her much-anticipated third studio album. The new song and music video will be available beginning September 6.
