Lady Antebellum is giving fans another taste of what’s to come on their much-anticipated new album, Ocean, with the release of their touching new song “What I’m Leaving For.”
Written by Sam Ellis, Micah Premnath and Laura Veltz, “What I’m Leaving For” is a reflective ballad that finds the band recalling the pain they feel when they leave their families to go out on the road. The emotional track also serves as a reminder of why they do what they do and it’s one the trio fell in love with immediately.
“I wore out the demo for this song,” Lady A’s Dave Haywood said in a press release. “I immediately related to it. It’s so hard stepping away from your family the way we do, and that song is such a great, beautiful way of articulating what we’re out here doing this for – our families, and those that we love and the fans that love us, too. This song is a beautiful picture of that push and pull of our journey.”
Hillary Scott took to Instagram to share her excitement over the release of the song on Friday. “This song is my heart in 3 minutes and 24 seconds. Other parents, especially Mamas…I hope no matter what kind of stage you find yourself on every day—whether it’s to an office, classroom, an airport or a deployment—that this song resonates with you,” she wrote. “It’s a beautiful and weighty mix of emotions to raise little humans—our hearts living outside of our chests.”
To coincide with the release of the song, Lady Antebellum shared a sentimental music video comprised of photos and video clips of the trio and their families. Check it out above.
The release of “What I’m Leaving For” comes just days after Lady Antebellum was inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame in Nashville. The GRAMMY-winning group was joined by their families and superstar Tim McGraw during the ceremony.
Ocean will officially be released on November 15. The album is available for pre-order now.
