Travis Tritt penned a heartfelt note to his wife, Theresa, in celebration of her birthday on Wednesday, July 12.

The country music icon posted the message via social media alongside a few photos commemorating some of the happy moments they’ve shared together as well as with their three kids.

“Wishing a very Happy Birthday to my lovely bride and soulmate. You are as sweet, loving and kindhearted as you are beautiful,” Tritt wrote, boasting about his other half.

He went on to praise his wife, whose full name is Theresa Nelson, for everything she does for their entire family.

“You have instilled a love of family in our children and raised them so well. I hope you receive as much joy and love as you have given to everyone else. I love you with all my heart and I wish you many more happy and healthy birthdays to come. 🎂🎊🎉”

Tritt first caught sight with the Nashville-based student/model during his own birthday celebration on Feb. 8, 1995. She instantly caught his attention and after getting her number, the pair began getting to know each other through phone calls and text messages.

“I saw a sincere sweetness in her that stuck out from all the women I had ever met,” Tritt recalls, according to The Boot

Their connection continued to grow, leading them to commit to a long-distance relationship. This proved to be an especially grueling challenge for Tritt who often found himself pouring his emotions from missing Nelson into his songwriting.

“We were apart for about two weeks after having been together practically every day for three months, and I missed her much more than I thought I was going to — and much more than I wanted to let myself miss her,” Tritt told the Chicago Tribune in 1996. “[The band and I] were out in the middle of East Bumble-somewhere, and my cellular phone wasn’t working, so I’d get off the stage and couldn’t call her, and I’d be wondering what she was up to and if she was feeling anywhere close to as miserable as I was.”

Luckily, they didn’t have to be a part for too long as Nelson eventually made the move to Atlanta, Ga., so that she and the “I’m Gonna Be Somebody” singer could finally be together.

On April 12, 1997, Tritt and Nelson tied the knot. This marked the country singer’s third marriage, following his relationship with his high school sweetheart, Karen Ryon, and later, another woman named Jodi Barnett.

It’s been over two decades of love and partnership for Tritt and Nelson. In that time, they have also welcomed two sons, Tristan James and Tarian Nathaniel, and their oldest child, a daughter named Tyler Reese Tritt.

“Travis and I are best friends,” Nelson told Country Weekly in 2000. “We do everything together. People ask us, ‘How can you two spend that much time together? Don’t you get sick of each other?’ But we don’t. We’re buddies.”

Most recently, the two-time GRAMMY award-winning artist dropped his latest album, Proud of the Country. The project was recorded over three decades ago, but on April 28, 2023, it was released to all digital streaming services worldwide for the first time via Copperhill Records.

Proud of the Country is said to have landed Tritt his very first record deal when it was initially released in 1987 via Copperhill Records. Until this year, the album had only been available for listening on the limited 1,000 physical copies that were initially produced.

Travis Tritt is currently in the midst of his 2023 tour across the US. The trek launched March 30 in Troy, OH, and includes stops in, Indiana, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and more. He also recently added dates in Georgia, North Carolina, Illinois, Indiana and Colorado, where he will wrap things up on September 21.

In the meantime, he is slated to join Eric Church on The Outsiders Revival Tour for two shows this summer. Tritt will take the stage in Cincinnati, OH on July 14 and St. Louis, MO on July 15.
