Shania Twain has a brand-new documentary headed to Netflix: Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl.
Produced by Joss Crowley, the documentary has reportedly been in production for several years and will follow Twain’s illustrious career “from a Nashville newcomer to international icon.”
Crowley has previously produced documentaries for several high-profile musicians, including Lenny Kravitz, Elvis Costello, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd and more recently, Mark Ronson and Ritchie Blackmore.
“Singer Shania Twain transcends genres across borders amid triumphs and setbacks in this documentary,” a Netflix synopsis reads.

In April of 2021, Brent Mason, a guitarist who played on four of Twain’s albums, was interviewed for the documentary and shared a photo from the day on set alongside Twain’s longtime studio drummer, Paul Leim.
“Spending the day @sound_stage_studios being interviewed for the upcoming #shaniatwain documentary. I played guitar on four of Shania’s albums and I’m talking about that and performing a lot of the signature guitar parts I created for all those songs. Pictured with me is my good buddy for over 30 yrs Paul Leim who played drums on all those albums.”
The country hitmaker has yet to formally announce the documentary, however, she did recently update her profile photo on social media to an image that is similar to what appears on the Netflix preview.
Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl will be released on August 26th, 2022, according to Netflix. However, the streaming giant also shared a tweet that says the film would be out on July 26, 2022.
The Canadian songstress has sold over 100 million records, making her the best-selling female artist in country music history and one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
Twain’s albums include Shania Twain, Twain’s Platinum-selling 1993 debut; The Woman in Me, her GRAMMY Award-winning, Double Diamond-selling 1995 release; Come On Over, the best-selling studio album in Soundscan history by a female artist in any genre and the best-selling country album of all time with over 40 million units sold worldwide; and UP!, Twain’s third consecutive Diamond-selling album release.
The Diamond-selling singer’s success has even earned her the title of “Queen Of Country Pop” as well as dozens of awards, including five GRAMMYs and several CMA and ACM Awards.
Recognizing her indelible impact and achievements in music, Twain is the first and only female to receive CMT’s Artist of a Lifetime Award and she recently received the Icon Award at Billboard’s Women in Music ceremony.
In 2003, Twain was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame and in 2011, Twain received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in Los Angeles.
Twain’s hits include “Any Man of Mine,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” “You’re Still the One” and “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” Shania’s first album in 15 years, NOW, was released in September 2017 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 albums, making it the first female country release in over 3 years to top the all genre chart. Additionally, the album landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country album charts and went to No. 1 in Canada, Australia and the UK. The release of the album was followed by a year-long sold-out World Tour.
Twain is currently among the 2022 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame nominees, alongside Brad Paisley, Pam Tillis, and Kirk Franklin in the Contemporary Songwriter/Artist category. The inductees will be announced in early August 2022.
Shania Twain is set to return to the stage in Oro-Medonte, Canada for Boots and Hearts Music Festival 2022 on August 7.
Additionally, Twain is currently in the midst of her Let’s Go! Las Vegas Residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. Her residency kicked off in December of 2019 and continues through Sept. 10, 2022.
