Just in time for Father’s Day, Thomas Rhett has released “Things Dads Do,” a heartfelt track he co-wrote with his dad, Rhett Akins, alongside Matt Dragstrem and Chase McGill.
Rhett first teased the song on social media last summer and just last weekend, the country star performed the track with his dad at the Grand Ole Opry.
“Things Dads Do” is a tribute to fathers everywhere and finds the father of three praising all the things that dads do for their children.
“This is probably my favorite song I’ve gotten to write with my dad,” Thomas shares.” I’ve learned so many life lessons from him, and it’s pretty wild to see so much of him in myself now that I’m a dad. It felt like we should go ahead to release it for all of y’all who have been asking since we wrote it and to celebrate all the dads out there!”
Thomas previously opened up about working with his father, revealing that Rhett is, by far, his favorite person to write songs with.
“My favorite person to write with, as a whole, I think is my dad,” he revealed. “Even though I write with a bunch of other people, my dad and I do have a pretty special bond. Probably because he’s my dad, but he’s also like a really good friend of mine and a really fun co-writer.”
Thomas and Rhett recently topped the charts with “What’s Your Country Song,” another track they wrote together.
“Things Dads Do” follows the release of Thomas Rhett’s latest album, Country Again: Side A. The second half of the album is expected to arrive later this year.
