It’s been one week since Carly Pearce unveiled her latest album, Hummingbird, and during her recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, she kept the celebrations going with a performance of the empowering track, “woman to woman.”
The GRAMMY winner was eliminated by glow of the warm lights as she took the stage in silky green jumpsuit and dazzling statement earrings and let her heart do the talking amid the delicate instrumentals of her bandmates.
The Story Behind The Song
Together with songwriters Tofer Brown and Lauren Hungate, Pearce penned a song that speaks directly to her fellow females in the form of a warning about a certain man who’s known to be a player. She admits to falling victim to his charm, only to be left scorned by his unfaithful ways, and now she’s trying to save the next woman from experiencing the same heartache
“Girl, I’ve been you, Romeo roped me in/ I’ve walked in your shoes, let his boots in my bed/ Should’ve took the last one’s warning/ He took off in the morning/ Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and damn, he’s cooking/ Making his way from woman to woman,” Pearce sings.
Shares Update On Recent Health Scare
While catching up with Kelly Clarkson, Pearce also shared an update on her recent health issues, admitting, “I thought I was dying.” She described the “crazy chest pain” she started feeling that prompted her to speak with a doctor. Pearce has since been diagnosed with a heart condition called pericarditis, which according to Mayo Clinic, is “swelling and irritation of the thin, saclike tissue surrounding the heart.”
“I had a heart condition called pericarditis and you’re supposed to keep your heart rate down as you are recovering, which as an artist and a performer and somebody who just released record…It’s been scary,” Pearce admitted.
After learning more about her ongoing health issues, the “What He Didn’t Do” singer took to social media to discuss her findings with fans and to let them know that in order to prioritize her health, her upcoming shows will have to be slightly altered.
“I wanted to be honest with it because my shows look a little bit different right now,” she continued. “And also I’m a young, healthy person that takes care of themselves and my body told me something was wrong. So I just want people to listen to their body. You never know.”
New “Hummingbird” Album Documents Pearce’s Healing Journey
“woman to woman” appears on Carly Pearce’s Hummingbird album, and serves as one of 13 songs she had a hand in co-writing on the 14-track collection that dropped June 7. Unsurprisingly, she holds nothing back while documenting her journey of healing after moving on from the heartbreak illustrated in her previous album of 2021 titled, 29.
“I know that it’s been almost three years since I put out a full record and I to be honest with you, I haven’t really shared with you why, but it has been a really crazy thing to really heal,” Pearce shared in a video message with fans. “What I mean by that is I needed this time to figure out who I was after that chapter in my life. This album represents so much life lived, so many things that I think if you’re on a healing journey, hopefully you’ll be able to relate to…I hope that you listen to this record and you can hear that if you work on yourself and you go to therapy and you keep showing up and you keep being vulnerable…that it can get better. Its way better now than it’s ever been in my life and I’m really happy about that.”
She added, “These songs are, to me are the next chapter of my life and I hope you find your stories in them, and I hope that you see no matter where you’re at, you’re right on time.”
